Sorry for the delay, all--I've been job hunting, which is a full-time job in itself. As penance, here, have a color comic short about Iaroslav and Chekhov's life before the comic takes place.

The athmosphere in the first four panels is so thick you could cut it with a knife. You can just feel the tension. I'm particularly fond of panels 3&4 where the "camera" shifts from the attackers' faces to the victim in their feet. That look on his face is pretty intense.
I have to give some criticism for unrealism regarding the babushka - in real life she would have kicked their butts! :)

The only thing saving them from being broomed to death on the spot is the fact that they have her grandson as a hostage. :P
