The cool thing about those stairs -- the Potemkin Steps -- is that they were built in such a way that you can't see the landings from the bottom and can't see the stairs from the top.

I feel like I'm giving Odessa a bit of a raw deal here if I didn't at least mention a bit about the real city. It's a seriously beautiful place, even if it has the vibe that its glory peaked some time in the 1800s. Seriously, just look at this stuff.

(Plus, and I think I read this on this awesome blog that what Americans think of as Brooklyn Jewish stand-up comedy -- that style came from Odessa originally. I can't absolutely swear to that, but the dude who writes the blog is from NYC and is descended from Odessan Jewish dudes. So yeah.)

Please tell me we are going to see a 1990's alternate history webcomic adaptation of the Battleship Potemkin scene that happened on those stairs! That would be something :)

Excellent snippets/ peeks at the city as well! Makes me want to go there :) It truly feels like a beautiful place.
