Love the heavy shadows in this. As for second thoughts... I'm impressed she hasn't had any until now.

Thing is, before the war, all Yana's problems could be solved by attaching herself to/bribing/gaining the favor of a powerful member of the ruling class. And so far, she's stuck with that powerful mental habit, and it's worked ok. Like, the safest place in Ukraine is probably right behind Iaroslav. :p
But she's spent most of a summer fairly safe from combat and still eating enough to stay alive, and suddenly she's not sure if this Nomenklatura man's patronage is worth sticking her face in a bear trap for. (I realize commentating this much is bad form, but hey...)

I don't know, I mean she's been in a bear trap sometimes already before. And it's not bad form! It's fun!

True! On the other hand, it might kinda be sinking in that she might actually be better off without him. On the OTHER other hand, winter is coming on.

Walking into a war zone is certainly nuts, looks like these folks won't be going with you.
